今回の香港の民主化デモについて、個人的な思いをFacebookに書いたのでこちらに転載しておきます。
Some friends may wonder why Koji hasn't say anything about the umbrella revolution/protest although he likes HK politics... Yes I LOVE IT:p
I was away from HK for my vacation with gf since the protest has been started so that I haven't seen it directly, there's tons of the news on Facebook, Twitter, CNN & WSJ in US, etc though.
As a foreigner living in HK, what I can do is to be a Witness to observe this protest. The future of HK shall be chosen by Hong Kongese. Of course I support all HK citizens, not only for one side.
As far as I know, HK has never had any democracy and real politicians because HK has been protected by UK and the big Red for long time. Hong Kongese doesn't need to consider such things and focus on their biz. Hence, this protest is the first and biggest one for winning democracy in HK. Surprisingly, HK is still one of the safest region in the world under such situation, comparing with protests in other countries.
I'm quite sure that the big Red never compromise for those issues while HK gov can not make any decision because they are just a messenger to the big Red. Here is the question. Is the protest meaningless?
I don't think so. Even if the protesters can't win at the end of the day, this movement somehow affects the big Red's decision making/HK operations. Meanwhile, the protest costs a lot in terms of economy, and causes many conflicts and victims in HK. There's no absolute right answer whether it's worthwhile.
Being a witness...will see...
